The long ride home – an ethics case study
This recounts the story of eight-year-old Hannah who has spent a month in the ICU with relapsed acute myelogenous leukemia. Her parents accepted that her prognosis was bleak and were very keen to take her home. As the medical transport commenced, the clinical team was concerned that Hannah may not live long enough to get back home. You can read in the NEJM what happened next and decide what you would have done in those circumstances.
