Projects

Projects undertaken by the Consortium are based on the strategic plan, principles and actions arising from the Strengthening Palliative Care Policy released by the Victorian Department of Health in 2004.

Current projects include:

  • Management of secretions at end of life (development of clinical guidelines). This project has included literature reviews, surveys of current practice, development of an information leaflet for families - specific to this symptom and the devising of evidence based guidelines. The project team are finalising all aspects and will release the guidelines as soon as this process is completed.
  • “After hours community palliative care pilot project” (accessing after hours services) being undertaken in partnership with Hume Palliative Care Consortium and Barwon South Western Region Palliative Care Consortium. After Hours Triage Project
  • "Coordinating pre- palliative and palliative care to address client needs in the Eastern Metropolitan Region" is a service co-ordination project completed by consortium services - Eastern Palliative Care, RDNS and Healthy at Home/Eastern HARP with support of the Inner East PCP.
The project objective was to develop a clear documented approach to the service delivery type and aid the movement of clients across services. There was an emphasis on earlier service provision for pre-palliative clients.
The project has been completed and was presented at the Palliative Care Victoria State Conference in July 2010.
  • Opioid Conversion and Syringe driver compatibilities documents that were released in 2008 are currently being reviewed. Updated versions will be released as soon as they are finalised.
