  • How cultural values and world views affect experience and expectations of palliative care;
  • How to elicit culturally significant information in a sensitive way;
  • How to plan for the culturally relevant needs of clients, families, and friends; and
  • How to identify when a communication problem is occurring and apply effective strategies to resolve it.

Target audience: All health care professionals including those working in palliative care.

Facilitator: Dr Hung Nguyen The workshop will be presented in partnership with Palliative Care Victoria and will be delivered by Dr Hung Nguyen. Dr Nguyen works as a General Practitioner in multicultural Glen Waverley. He has extensive clinical and teaching experience in cross-cultural medicine

Facilitator – Dr Fiona Runacres

Fiona Runacres is a palliative care specialist, with clinical appointments at Calvary Health Care Bethlehem and Monash Health. She previously undertook general practice training and gained her FRACGP in 2011. Fiona works in community palliative care, inpatient palliative care and outpatient clinic settings. Her clinical interests include specialist palliative care for patients with life-limiting non-malignant disease, including renal supportive care and neuropalliative care.

The aim of the workshop is to assist health professionals working in AGED CARE to acquire knowledge, skills and confidence in providing a palliative approach for people living with a life-limiting illness, and their families

This workshop will be delivered online over 5 weeks. One session each week on a Thursday for 2 hours using the ZOOM application.

Eastern Palliative Care Education Services provides Personal Care Attendants (PCAs) working in aged care facilities, disability or other community care providers, with an introduction to palliative care. It explores the comprehensive needs of people at the end of life and their families, and gives an overview of some common issues that confront clients and carers on a day-to-day basis. The course incorporates guidelines for a palliative approach to care.

One day course - Cost $180.00 per person [including GST] - Cost includes handouts of presentations, activity sheets, morning/afternoon refreshments & lunch.
